Ryan Fredericks - signed
OS

West Ham United are delighted to confirm the capture of dynamic right-back Ryan Fredericks.

The 25-year-old Londoner will join the Hammers on 1 July after agreeing a four-year contract with the Club and becomes new manager Manuel Pellegrini’s first summer signing.

Fredericks arrives at London Stadium on the back of the best season of his career with Fulham, having won promotion to the Premier League and been named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year.

"It’s amazing for this deal to finally happen," Fredericks told whufc.com. "I know we’ve been speaking about it for a while and trying to get things in place and finally, we’ve got it over the line. I’m just buzzing to be here.

"West Ham United is one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League. Everyone knows the history of West Ham and there’s a lot of factors that brought me to the club.

"Obviously, it’s an exciting time for West Ham. The club have just brought in a new manager in Manuel Pellegrini and everyone knows his CV and what he has done in England before and in other leagues as well. I’m sure I can learn a lot from him.

"It just felt like, for the next step of my career, I would be best suited coming here."

Manager Pellegrini has welcomed Fredericks to the club and is looking forward to working with his first acquisition since becoming West Ham boss.

The Chilean said: “I am very pleased to welcome Ryan to West Ham United as our first signing this summer. He joins having had a successful season with Fulham and is a player who will bring great qualities to our squad.

“He has good experience, with more than 150 senior appearances already but, at 25, he is still a young player with his best years ahead of him.

“Ryan has good character, is hungry to succeed, and has shown me that he has great desire to be a West Ham United player. I look forward to working with him.”

A lightning-quick full-back, Potters Bar-born Fredericks was a schoolboy sprint champion before starting his football career with Tottenham Hotspur.

The defender was just 18 when he debuted in a UEFA Europa League tie against Hearts in August 2011 – the first of four cup matches he appeared in for the north London club.

With England’s Kyle Walker – a player he has drawn comparisons with – established as Spurs’ first-choice right-back, Fredericks enjoyed loan spells with Brentford, Millwall and Middlesbrough before joining Bristol City in the summer of 2015.

A short time later, he was sold to Fulham and quickly established himself in the Cottagers’ starting XI under manager Slavisa Jokanovic.

After missing out on promotion in 2016/17, when Fulham lost to Reading in the Championship Play-Off semi-finals, Fredericks enjoyed a sensational 2017/18 campaign which culminated in a promotion-winning victory over Aston Villa at Wembley.

Fredericks missed just four of Fulham’s 52 matches in all competitions, keeping 15 clean sheets and registering seven assists in Jokanovic’s attack-minded team.

The former England U19 international’s form impressed his fellow professionals, who voted him and two other Fulham players into the PFA Team of the Year.

Spoke to a Fulham ST holder ( who renewed before the play off final for the same price as last season ) and his opinion was that we had acquired a very good player. Would have preferred that Fredericks had stayed.

Bumped into a Fulham mate today, season ticket holder, asked him about this Fredericks character. With no hint of dour grapes he reckoned, lightening fast, no end product, frustrating, had the tendency to go missing later in the season. Reckoned we might be better off sticking with Zabaleta.

Blimey.

good signing, hopefully zaba stays on as a back up rb or cb and passes on some knowledge. his team mate cairney would be another good buy but no doubt his price would have at least doubled since the play off final

:)

Seems to be a requirement these days.

In a few years, there will be a roaring business in tattoo removal.

Whether this player works out this is the type of signing we should be making young hungry bags of pace very aggressive and on 40k a week not on ridiculous wages
Welcome on board son

Saw him live a couple of season ago, and thought he'd make a good signing. Hopefully he'll fit in straight away when he gets a chance. Glad we're looking at getting in some English players too, sickening seeing nearly an entire foreign team out.

Fucking top drawer signing.

Re: Ryan Fredericks - signed
Always want to give our players a chance but Byram has had a number of those to prove he is a fullback at this level and has yet to do that for me.

He has said he prefers fullback in the past but backup winger is the only real role I could possibly see for him.

Welcome Fredericks

You can't teach pace and he has that. Not many better than Zabaletta to help him with the defensive game and he is young enough to have an upside. Not much of a risk, to be honest.

Rose - Leeds
Trippier- Man City youth then Burnley

Re: Ryan Fredericks - signed
Spurs seem to develop fullbacks (or wingbacks) at will. They have had on their books Bale, Walker, Rose, and Trippier. Let's hope that some of what those players have has rubbed off on Fredericks.

Only time I saw Byram play well is the first game he played for us I remember it being vs Man City since then he's been a liabilty. Welcome Ryan Fredericks.

Byram is barely a footballer. He’s nicking a living.

I like Byram too. Unproven, maybe, thanks to a succession of injuries, and a bit wild occasionally, but worth persevering with. Had some good games early on.

I like Byram and think he might be better than this fella.

I went over to one of their fan sites to find out what the feeling about him was there. I didn’t realise how much they hated us. Turns out we’re a step down for him too apparently. That was even more surprising.

Am I the only one that liked Byram?
Didn’t really get an extended run in the team who were all pretty bad in the first few months.
Pleased to have signed Fredericks but still think Byram has something to offer.

I always like signings like this. We should do it more often.

Hopefully he can be an asset for us for years to come.

Nutsin
IMO
If we sign Butland - Adrian will leave
Arthur is not a fullback - wing back yes - fullback no
Rice was MOM for Ireland as a holding midfielder - I have read that Pellegrini sees him as that as well ( don't know if that is correct) But it might explain why we are being linked with attacking midfielders rather than the likes of Dendoncker et al
Kouyate got pissed off playing centre-half in his Anderlecht days
